Indiana celebrates 25th sister city relationship with Zhejiang

Date: 2012-10-18

INDIANAPOLIS | Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman on Wednesday celebrated the 25th anniversary of Indiana's sister-state relationship with Zhejiang Province, China.

Political and business leaders from Zhejiang, an east coast province south of Shanghai that's home to 54 million people, participated in a ceremony at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway commemorating the friendship pact signed by Gov. Robert Orr in 1987.

"Gov. Orr had incredible foresight to recognize the potential for growth Indiana stood to gain, and (Gov. Mitch Daniels) and I are proud to continue his legacy," Skillman said.

Exports to China of Indiana-made products grew 554 percent from 2007 to 2011.
